Project Based Learning
XPO allows innovators to participate in Project Based Learning (PBL). Connect is the name given to a co-taught history and English course. This Connect course focuses on connecting historical figures and events to our current evolving world while utilizing skills developed through English Language Arts. Community-focused innovators work together on larger projects to develop an authentic experience. Connect will give innovators a voice and choice in their project path, while also allowing them to discover multiple professional avenues available to them after high school.
Scimatics is the name given to a co-taught math and science course. Students in this course often work alongside Connect course members to achieve integration between subjects through projects intended to engage and support the Broken Arrow community. In this course, student engagement is encouraged through the application of the standards, allowing students to discover and experience their usefulness. Students' knowledge and growth will be assessed using traditional methods, as well as throughout the Project Based Learning process.
Innovators in these supplemental XPO courses work with their classmates to explore and solve real-world problems. Innovators earn elective credits through interdisciplinary projects and a multitude of experiences focused on exposing, expanding, and exploring. Using the nine focus areas given, students begin with exploring different interests and possible careers in Expose. As juniors, XPO students are enrolled in Explore, which is a course that delves even deeper into the subject area. Students are given voice and choice in their projects in hopes that they further develop as people and learn about possible future paths.
